What an exciting chase day this was! There was some major questions about the setup, but overall the potential was certainly there for a significant severe weather event. You should read my forecast from the night before, it outlined things decently!
We began the morning in Norman with an initial target of Abilene, TX. We wanted to be right on the dryline and decently far south so that we would be in the better moisture.
There was ongoing convection, much like I figured, but it was not substantial enough to produce significant outflow and ruin the day. These questions precluded high probabilities from SPC until the day of the event.
If you want to read a really great Mesoscale Discussion, check this out! This is from Rich Thompson of the Storm Prediction Center, talking about “round two” which were the storms with significant hail and tornadoes near Dallas.
Here is my video/timelapse of a few incredible supercells, including the Stephenville, TX supercell!
